This position plays a central leadership role in coordinating staff, contractors, budgeting, planning, and public engagement to ensure high-quality, safe, and sustainable park assets for the entire community.

The Operations Manager supervises a team of regular and seasonal staff, manages multiple complex work programs, and collaborates closely with Town departments, state and federal agencies, utilities, and the public. Key Responsibilities

Qualifications:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in parks management, forestry, horticulture, environmental studies, engineering, or a related field, along with five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in parks or facility management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Mus have at least three years of supervisory experience, and familiarity with municipal or public-sector operations.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of park operations, including turf management, horticulture, playground safety, integrated pest management, and the maintenance of public grounds and facilities. A strong understanding of procurement processes, contract oversight, budgeting, and municipal procedures is essential. The role requires effective leadership and supervisory ability, with the capacity to motivate staff, maintain high morale, and manage performance in a complex operational environment. Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills are necessary to work effectively with the public, coworkers, and staff across Town departments. Proficiency with computers—including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and work order or asset management systems—is required. The position also demands the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure, particularly during emergency operations or periods of high workload.

Special Requirements:
